A place for the things
I don't want to forget.

A field guide to slowing downOn taking the long way home, leaving the phone behind, and looking a little closer.

Slowing down does not need to become another project. Start with one ordinary thing: take the longer route home, sit by a window without reaching for your phone, or give a cup of tea your full attention. Nothing dramatic changes, and somehow the day feels a little more like your own.

The pleasure of starting badlyA reminder that the first version is allowed to be awkward, lopsided, and unfinished.

The first draft is a place to put the idea down, not a verdict on whether you can do it. Make the crooked sketch, write the clumsy paragraph, try the recipe before you own the right pan. A rough beginning gives you something real to respond to, and that is often where the fun starts.

What are you making time for?A question I have been carrying around, and a few answers I didn't expect.

I used to think the answer had to be something impressive. Lately it is smaller: a long breakfast with a friend, an hour to read, a walk with no destination. The question is less about finding more time than noticing where the time we already have is going.

A little about me

Hello, I'm Sam.

This is my corner of the internet for ideas in progress, everyday observations, and the occasional thing I have learned the hard way. Pull up a chair.
